MLB The Show 26 has overhauled Franchise Mode trading with a realistic Trade Hub and delayed negotiation logic. While these changes make trades more exciting, they also open the door for mistakes that can cost your team a championship. Here are the biggest pitfalls to watch out for—and how to avoid them.

1. Waiting Until the Last Minute

In previous versions, trades happened instantly. Now, the Trade Delay System can take several in-game days for teams to respond.

The Mistake: Submitting a huge deal on the July 31st deadline and expecting an immediate yes.

The Fix: Begin trade talks at least a week in advance. This gives you time for counter-offers and avoids missing key opportunities.

2. Ignoring “Untouchable” Players

The AI now protects its franchise faces and top prospects with an Untouchable tag.

The Mistake: Spending valuable prospects trying to pry away a player who the AI will almost never trade.

The Fix: Check the Trade Hub before building packages. Focus on players actually on the trade block for realistic chances.

3. Neglecting Roster Depth for a Single Star

The new AI values teams that fill roster holes, not just hoard talent.

The Mistake: Trading multiple key prospects for one 99-OVR superstar, leaving your bench and bullpen thin.

The Fix: Target specific needs like lefty relievers or utility hitters to maintain a balanced roster and survive injuries.

4. Overlooking Team Direction (Buy vs. Sell)

Teams now trade based on their competitive window.

The Mistake: Offering win-now veterans to a rebuilding team, or trying to steal core starters from playoff contenders.

The Fix: Study the standings. Rebuilding clubs want young, cost-controlled talent. Contenders are looking for precise upgrades to push for October.

5. Forgetting the 4th Asset Slot

MLB The Show 26 now allows 4-for-4 trades, up from three.

The Mistake: Submitting three-player packages that fall short of the AI’s value threshold.

The Fix: Use the fourth slot to sweeten offers or balance the trade, especially when chasing high-value veterans.

6. Mismanaging the Rumor Board

The Rumor Board gives a league-wide view of player availability.

The Mistake: Only reacting to players already on the trade block.

The Fix: Start monitoring in early July. Spot potential trades before other GMs drive up prices or lock in targets.
