Old School RuneScape (OSRS)
is entering another busy period
OSRS gold
, with Jagex rolling out new quality-of-life improvements, preparing upcoming content and teasing major announcements for RuneFest 2026. The latest September 2026 update also brings some surprisingly useful changes for pet owners, while
The Graveyard
continues to build interest around upcoming Fremennik content.
With RuneFest only weeks away, there is plenty for OSRS players to watch right now.
OSRS September 2026 Update Brings Major Pet Changes
The latest
OSRS update
, released on September 16, focuses heavily on pets and several long-requested quality-of-life improvements. One of the biggest changes is that pets can now accompany players into
The Gauntlet, Corrupted Gauntlet and Impetuous Impulses
without needing to be banked first.
For other minigames, players can also enter while their pet is following them. The pet becomes invisible inside those activities, but the important part is that players no longer need to make an extra trip to the bank.
There is another useful change for pet collectors: eligible pets can now respawn alongside their owner after death and continue following them. Certain generic pets, including dogs, cats, Hellcats and several others, remain exceptions.
The update also allows players to enter Fossil Island's underwater area without banking their pet first, although the pet remains invisible underwater.
For players who spend hundreds of hours chasing OSRS pets, these changes may sound small, but they remove several repetitive steps from everyday gameplay.
A Ruff Situation and OSRS Dogs Get More Attention
Dogs have also become part of the recent OSRS conversation following the
A Ruff Situation
quest and the game's new adoption features.
Jagex has now fixed an issue that prevented players from seeing certain locked puppies in the adoption interface when they already owned a dog. The latest update also prevents dogs from being fed several unusual items, including onion sacks, poison karambwan and various satchels.
The dog-related changes are part of a wider effort to polish the new content rather than introduce another major combat feature.
For players searching for
OSRS new quest
information, however, the bigger story may still be what comes next.
The Graveyard Is Building Toward New OSRS Content
Jagex recently published
The Graveyard - Rewards Blog
, teasing more information surrounding the lost Fremennik treasure and the mysterious Graveyard content. The official description sends players back toward Ulfric and the mystery surrounding the lost treasure.
That makes The Graveyard one of the more important OSRS topics to watch as September continues.
While not every detail has been revealed yet, the rewards discussion gives players an early look at what could make the upcoming content worth completing. This is especially relevant for players who follow new quests, Fremennik lore and upcoming OSRS PvM or progression opportunities.
OSRS RuneFest 2026 Could Reveal What Comes Next
The biggest upcoming event on the OSRS calendar is arguably
RuneFest 2026
.
Jagex says RuneFest will take place on October 3–4 at the Birmingham NEC. More importantly for players who cannot attend in person, the
OSRS RuneFest Summit
will be streamed on October 3 at 13:00 UTC. Jagex has confirmed that the summit will reveal what is coming next on the OSRS roadmap.
That makes RuneFest one of the most important dates for anyone searching for
OSRS 2026 roadmap
,
OSRS upcoming updates
or
OSRS new content
.
With The Graveyard already generating attention, players have plenty of reasons to watch the event for quest announcements, PvM plans, new gameplay systems and other long-term content.
OSRS Bots and RWT Remain a Major Issue
Another major part of the latest OSRS news is Jagex's ongoing anti-cheating work.
According to Jagex's August 2026 statistics, OSRS recorded
125,803 macro bans
during the month, including more than 111,000 on free-to-play accounts. Jagex also reported
19,750 RWT bans
and approximately
3.96 trillion GP removed from the game
during August.
Year-to-date figures were even larger, with Jagex reporting
7.47 million OSRS macro bans
, 139,864 RWT bans and 29.4 trillion GP removed through the end of August.
Jagex says it is also seeing the average age and level of detected bots decline, which it interprets as evidence that longer-standing and higher-level bot accounts are increasingly being detected and removed.
For the OSRS economy, botting and real-world trading remain important issues because they can affect item prices, GP generation and the wider Grand Exchange.
More OSRS Updates Are Coming Soon
The September 16 update also confirms that more changes from the
Gathering Efficiencies poll
are scheduled to begin rolling out from September 30.
These include stackable net traps, changes involving the Celestial Signet and Daeyalt mining, using logs from the log basket for deadfall and pitfall traps, and improved visibility for farming patch compost states.
That means September is not simply a quiet period between major OSRS releases. Several smaller systems are continuing to evolve while Jagex prepares its larger announcements.
For players returning to
Old School RuneScape
, this is also a good time to check recent quests, pet changes, PvM content and upcoming roadmap information before the next major wave of updates arrives.
What’s Next for Old School RuneScape?
The current OSRS news cycle is being driven by several overlapping stories:
The Graveyard, new pet improvements, the upcoming Gathering Efficiencies changes, anti-bot activity and RuneFest 2026
cheap RuneScape gold
.
The most important date to remember is October 3, when Jagex plans to reveal more about the future OSRS roadmap during the RuneFest Summit.
Until then, players have plenty to explore. The latest pet changes make everyday activities smoother, The Graveyard is adding another mystery to the game's expanding quest lineup, and Jagex's continued anti-cheating efforts are targeting billions of GP and large numbers of rule-breaking accounts.
For anyone following
OSRS latest news in September 2026
, the next few weeks could be particularly important as Jagex moves closer to its biggest roadmap reveal of the year.
